Regional Coordinator for ACT and NSW Australia

Published 8th January 2020 by jane leadbetter

We welcome Revd Karen Mitchell-Lambert as the new Messy Church Regional Coordinator for Australian Capital Territory (ACT) and New South Wales (NSW) in Australia. Karen is an ordained deacon in the Uniting Church in Australia and has 25 years’ ministerial experience with youth, young adults, children and families. Her passion is to help the church find ways to share the love of God with their communities around them.
Karen says, ‘I first discovered Messy Church in 2009 when I came to the Greenbelt Festival in the UK to see what churches of the world were doing to encourage families in faith. This is me! I remember my kids having so much fun, and so did I! When I got back to Australia, we had a go and I have had the opportunity to continue playing with Messy Church for the past ten years in three different congregations. We have had some awesome sessions and some epic fails, learning a lot along the way. I am now the Head of Emerging Gens in NSW ACT for the Uniting Church and Messy Church is still one of my big passions.
‘What I loved about Lucy Moore, founder, talking about Messy Church, was her enthusiasm for people to be creative and making the most of the people you have in the room, and so people were encouraged whether it was sports or other crazy ideas. This has meant that everywhere I have been we have looked at the gifts people have and asked them to share it in a way to reflect the kingdom of God. I look look forward to encouraging and supporting Messy Church as we go forward together.’
