Talking about God during Messy Church

Published 28th July 2016 by lucy moore

One problem which a lot of Messy Church teams face, is how to talk about God with the families who come to their activity table. Many people simply don’t feel confident to mention the G-word. I was chatting about this with a team from the south coast today and one wise person shared the insight that their team find it easier than many to chat about God-stuff, because most of them are in home groups and spend a lot of time there simply taking about God.
It’s not a complicated insight, is it? Just very profound. And both a hard and easy answer to the question, ‘How do we talk about God?’ It isn’t about a magic formula or technique, but about an ongoing relationship with God, practised in community with a small safe group of otehr Christians. No quick-fix cut and paste solution, but an invitation to all of us to get our relationship with God and others into a good place and perhaps the God-talk will flow out naturally… indeed, I wonder if we would be able to stop ourselves talking about God?
